On XX-XX-XXXX, STUDENT was given the Comprehensive Assessment of Spoken Language-Second Edition(CASL-II), an assessment of oral language for children and young adults. This test evaluates STUDENT’s comprehension, expression and retrieval based upon semantics (knowledge and use of words and word combinations), syntax (knowledge and use of grammar), supralinguistics (comprehension and complex language), and pragmatics (awareness of using and modifying language appropriately based upon one’s situation). This assessment allows the speech pathologist to determine the strengths of STUDENT’s language, as well as the oral language skills that are still needed in order to functionally communicate invarious environments by testing five different components of language: antonyms (X%), syntax construction (X%), paragraph comprehension (X%), non-literal language (X%), and pragmatic judgment (X%). Overall, STUDENT scored in the Xth percentile on this assessment.
 
 
Receptive Language
 
Receptive Language refers to a STUDENT's ability to comprehend oral and written language. STUDENT’s standard score on paragraph comprehension (X) was average. Informal observations demonstrate that STUDENT is able to comprehend language. In a one-on-one conversation with the examiner, STUDENT was able to independently and appropriately answer "wh" questions. STUDENT was observed to understand directions in order to complete specific tasks. 
 
Expressive Language
 
Expressive Language refers to a STUDENT's ability to orally communicate wants and needs. STUDENT’s standard scores on antonyms (X), syntax construction (X), non-literal language (X), and pragmatic judgement (X) were all within the average range. He was able to clearly and effectively convey his ideas using grammatically correct sentences. STUDENT asked and answered questions and was observed to engage in conversations with his peers appropriately.
