Launch local app using a snippet

Hi Everyone

I'm brand new to Text Blaze and loving it! It's been really easy to set up and I've already saved myself lots of repetitive typing over the past few days.

I looked through the topics here but could see a similar question, so here it is...

Is it possible to launch a local App and/or a local file in its associated App? In my case, I'd like to launch my cashflow spreadsheet in Excel. I'm using Windows 11 Home.

Many thanks

Steve

Hello Steve,

We have the {click} command which allows you to navigate through websites. If the app you're using is a web app, you should be able to do this.

However, this won't work on desktop apps such as Excel, since Text Blaze can't click on elements on desktop apps.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I had a feeling your App didn't support that feature. Any chance it might in the future, or is that beyond the current vision?

Regards, Steve

To clarify, you would like to be able to click on buttons on desktop apps like we are currently able to do on websites?

We'll definitely considering this, but it's challenging due to the different nature of desktop vs web apps.

Thanks. What I'd like to be able to do is launch an Office App using a text shortcut or using a hot key on a Windows keyboard.

Cheers, Steve

Hi @stevepalmer,

To better understand your use case, are you looking to set a hotkey to launch an app using Text Blaze? For instance, pressing Ctrl-1 could open Excel. Alternatively, do you want to have the hotkey already configured in another app and just press Ctrl-1 in your snippet to open that app?

Yes. I'd like to press say the 'Home' button and it launches Excel on a Windows PC

Thanks, Steve

Hi @stevepalmer,

Thank you for your response. At present, it is not supported, but we have made a note of it. It is certainly a valuable feature in keyboard automation.

That's good to know, thanks!

Steve
