October Development Update

Text Blaze Highlights

:keyboard: Use Snippets Outside a Text Field

Using Text Blaze Autopilot, Text Blaze can focus a field automatically.

This month we added the ability to trigger a snippet outside a text field. By allowing you to trigger a snippet outside a text field, you can type the shortcut as soon as the page loads without even needing to click into a text field. This allows you to speed up your workflows even more and further reduce mistakes.

To enable this, check the "Enable outside text boxes" checkbox at the bottom of the folder sidebar:

:technologist: Snippet and Folder API Beta

In May we launched the User API allowing Business customers to programmatically manage Text Blaze users and teams within their organization.

This month, we extended the API to allow programmatic management of snippets and folders. This allows you to sync snippets with other systems or make other programmatic changes to snippets.

We're planning to extend this API over time and in the future also plan to surface these capabilities in an MCP server for integration in AI systems. If there are any specific API features that you would find helpful, just let us know.

You can now have an improved collaboration experience with your team by seeing who is currently viewing the same table and tracking which specific fields they are viewing or editing in real time, making it easier to coordinate changes and prevent overlapping work.

You can now add rich formatting like bold or links to your form and field descriptions, allowing you to improve the instructions for your users:

:wrench: Scheduled Data Blaze Maintenance

On Saturday, October 10th, from 7:00 AM UTC to 9:00 AM UTC, we will carry out scheduled Data Blaze maintenance to upgrade our systems. These upgrades should improve performance and enhance reliability.

During this period, Data Blaze may be in read-only mode or briefly inaccessible.

LOVE the Data Blaze enhancements. Thank you!

I am noticing many changes to how command colors behave with the latest update. For example, IF commands that used to all be pinkish, now are yellowish, sometimes purple, sometimes blue. Any info on these changes and the logic that drives the color changes would be much appreciated.

I may have figured it out. Are the colors indicating levels of nested IF command?

  • Purple is an individual stand-alone IF command or top-level IF command of a nested set.
  • Blue is a 2nd level IF command of a nested set.
  • Yellow is a 3rd level IF command of a nested set.

I have not gone beyond 3 levels yet. Am I on to something here?

Hi Brad,

Yes, we're testing out having different colors for nested commands that have starts/ends (if, note, formtoggle, etc...).

We find this makes it easier to read a complex snippet as it's simpler to visually see which end block matches which start block.

Let us know what you think of it as you use it more.

Could we have an option to change the highlight color when hovering/clicking either side of a paired command? It already highlights the matching pair, but the grayish color is hard for me to see. I think that'd go a long way toward visibility.
