Counselled on use of alcohol and to use only in moderation. Patient requested to be able to have 2 small glass of wine a day. This NP stated that if drinks wine can only have 2 6 oz glasses a day. Discussed with patient that over time, excessive alcohol use can lead to the development of chronic diseases or other serious problems including worsening HTN, heart disease, digestive problems and weakening the immune system. alcohol can also make dementia worse and affect mental health. Discussed that drinking alcohol can also contribute to being a fall risk. Discussed that frequent drinking can lead to dependence.
Patient agreeable to moderation limit and verbalized understanding of counselling/ risk of alcohol intake. Nursing notified.
