Insert into linked column

I don't understand how to add data directly into a linked column from a snippet.

I've tried several ways and it just won't work.

If you refer to link row fields in your question, then you should use the linkrow->id syntax to set its value, as in the following example:

Name: {formtext: name=person_name}

{dbselect: SELECT Name, rowid() AS `Row ID` FROM Countries; space=id; menu=yes}
{dbinsert: INSERT INTO People SET name=@person_name, `country->id`=`@row id`; space=id; autoaddfields=no}

I did go through the documentation but couldn't fully understand it. Your example makes it really clear; thank you.
